Officially opened in 1988, Nestlé Navanakorn (Bangkok) was the first and still is the only milk powder factory in Thailand. Nestlé manufactures the country’s best-loved milk powder brand such as BEAR BRAND and CARNATION from this plant. After the factory has been hit by the worst flooding in Thailand for the past 5 decades, the factory required a complete refurbishment of all floor areas. Effected areas included process areas, the chemical storage area and the entire warehouse.
Project requirements
Since all floors were submerged for almost six weeks it became apparent during the first inspection that a moisture barrier system was required in order to allow a safe application of the subsequent flooring systems and meet the tight refurbishment schedule.Furthermore, just-in-time delivery of the various Sikafloor® materials was required to guarantee Nestlé’s start date for production in this 26.000 m² facility.
Sika solution
In order to cope with the severe moisture issue a temporary moisture barrier of Sikafloor®-81 EpoCem was installed. Sikafloor®-81 EpoCem allows the safe application of subsequent flooring systems by reducing the surface moisture content to a safe level hence preventing future blistering.
The following bespoke systems have been installed in the defined areas of the factory:
- Production Dry Zone Area (incl. controlled wet)
- Non-production Areas
- Explosion Proof Zone (ATEX)
- Chemical Storage Rooms / CIP
- Storage Areas
- Drinking Water Tanks
