"OEM" stands for "Original Equipment Manufacturer." When a product or part is labeled as "OEM approved," it means that the manufacturer (Sika) of that product knows exactly what the OEM's requirements are. This certification ensures that the product meets the quality and compatibility standards set by the original manufacturer.

In simpler terms, if a product is "OEM approved," it is of high quality and compatible with the original equipment it is designed to work with. Sika’s “OEM approved” adhesives or sealants are specifically designed and formulated to meet or even exceed the high standards and specifications set by OEMs for use in vehicle repairs and modifications.

The "OEM approved" designation possesses qualities such as:

Quality

OEMs have strict quality standards for the materials used in their vehicles. Sika is continuing these quality standards in the Automotive Aftermarket. Adhesives or sealants that are OEM approved are subjected to thorough a large series of lab testing, testing under real-life conditions and field-testing with the customers to ensure they meet these standards, guaranteeing their reliability, durability, and overall performance.

Compatibility

Automotive systems involve a variety of materials such as metals, plastics, composites, and coatings. OEM approved systems are formulated to be compatible with these materials, ensuring proper bonding without causing damage or compromising the integrity of the vehicle.

Safety Compliance

Adhesives used in automotive applications must adhere to safety regulations and standards to ensure the safety of vehicle occupants. OEM approved adhesives undergo a large series of testings to verify their compliance with these regulations, providing assurance that repairs or modifications made with these adhesives maintain the safety standards set by the OEM.

For example, Sika has already carried out over 80 crash tests (Crash test standard FMVSS 212) under different conditions in the AGR (Auto Glass Replacement) business to simulate the performance under real conditions.

Crash Test Video

For our latest innovation, the SikaTack® DRIVE (Purform®), Sika conducted a crash test in front of 80 customers from all over the world to put our latest OEM Approved AGR adhesive to the ultimate test under real conditions.

Long-term Reliability

OEM approved systems are designed to withstand the demanding conditions encountered in automotive environments, including temperature fluctuations, vibrations, and exposure to various chemicals and fluids. They are engineered to provide long-lasting bonds that endure over the lifetime of the vehicle.

In summary, "OEM approved" is a designation that signifies quality, compatibility, and adherence or exceeds to the standards set by the original equipment manufacturer. It assures customers that they are purchasing a product or part that meets or exceeds the high standards and specifications of the OEM, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
