Sika® Plastiment® PH 8229

Water reducing & set retarding admixture

Sika Plastiment PH 8229 is ready to use, liquid admixture for producing uniform and predictable quality concrete. It reduces the quantity of mixing water required to produce concrete of a given consistency resulting in greater economy for a given strength. Placing and finishing characteristics are improved as  this admixture retards setting time. Sika Plastiment PH 8229 admixture will not initiate or promote corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete. The admixture does not contain added calcium chloride or chloride-based ingredients.

Sika Plastiment PH 8229 used at optimum dose rate modifies the performance of concrete to provide the following: In plastic concrete Reduced concrete mixing water – Higher ultimate strength and better durability. Superior slump retention – Improves working time for placing concrete. Controlled retardation – Depending on the dose rate. Improved cohesiveness – Reduces segregation and bleeding. Better pumpability. Improved workability – Superior finishing characteristics for slabs In hardened concrete Superior finishing – Better finished appearance for slab and off form precast surface. Increased strength – Compressive, flexural and bond of concrete to steel. High water reduction – HIgher durability. Concrete produced with Sika Plastiment PH 8229 admixture will have normal strength development after initial set occurs. If retardation is within the normal ASTM C494 type A and D specifications, Sika Plastiment PH 8229 admixture will develop higher early (24 hours) and higher ultimate strength than plain concrete when used within the recommended dosage range.

Application Information

Dispensing

Sika Plastiment PH 8229 an added to the concrete with mixing water. When used in conjunction with other admixtures, each admixture must be dispensed separately into the mix.

The addition of Sika Plastiment PH 8229 to a dry mix is not recommended.

Introduce Sika Plastiment PH 8229 at the specific dosage directly into mixer through a dispenser along with the  mixing water, when the concrete is damp (i.e. 50%-70% of the mixing water has been added). Mix the concrete for at least 3 minutes.

Recommended dosage

Sika Plastiment PH 8229 is used at the rate of range from 300 – 600ml per 100kg cementitous. Conduct site trial mix to determine the right dosage for the target setting time.
