Sikagard®-255 Protection

Two Component Crystalline Moisture Protection

Sikagard®-255 Protection is designed for surface protection, suitable for both interior and exterior use. It contains a unique acrylic polymer-modified silicate, which is the first substance to react with the cement in the concrete or mortar surface. This reaction creates crystallization that integrates and forms a layer binding the coating film to the substrate. This layer overcomes the common problem of traditional paints peeling under moisture and prevents efflorescence from appearing on the surface.

Usage

Application steps

SUBSTRATE PREPARATION

The surface must be sound, sufficiently strong, clean, and free from oil, grease, or any other contaminants. Depending on the substrate material, mechanical cleaning is required. Grinding or chipping may be necessary on glossy or weak surfaces.

APPLICATION

1. Damaged areas must be repaired before application (please contact Sika Technical Service for details of recommended repair products).

2. Dampen the surface before application, but do not allow running water during application.

3. Mix Sikagard®-255 Protection at a ratio of Part A : Part B = 4.5 : 1 by weight. Stir with a mechanical mixer (300–500 rpm) until homogeneous.

 

4. Apply the first coat of Sikagard®-255 Protection to the prepared surface by brush or trowel. Allow to dry for approximately 1–2 hours.

5. Apply the second coat of Sikagard®-255 Protection and allow to dry completely for at least 24 hours before overcoating, but not longer than 3 days.

CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT

The working equipment and tools can be mechanically cleaned using brushes and water. Cleaning should be carried out immediately after completion of the work and within the pot life of the material to avoid sediment forming on the equipment and tools.
