SikaShield® W1

Cementitious adhesive for bonding wet applied bituminous membranes

SikaShield® W1 is a 1-part polymer modified cementitious adhesive for bonding the SikaShield® W bituminous membranes on concrete substrates.

Usage

The Product is used for:
  • Basements and other below ground structures
  • Horizontal reinforced concrete slabs, decks and podiums
  • Vertical reinforced concrete walls

Storage conditions

The Product must be stored in original, unopened and undamaged sealed packaging in dry conditions at temperatures between +5 °C and +25 °C. Always refer to packaging.

Application steps

SUBSTRATE QUALITY

When designing the waterproofing system, make sure that the supporting structure has sufficient structural strength to support all new and existing layers of the system build-up. New concrete substrates must be at least 3 days old.

The substrate must be free of any sharp protrusion or burrs, clean, free of grease, laitance, oil and loosely adhering particles.

MIXING

IMPORTANT!

Over addition of water

Do not add more than prescribed addition of water to the powder. Over addition affects the Product's finished mechanical performance.

  1. Pour the minimum amount of water into a suitable clean mixing container.
  2. While mixing gradually add the powder.
  3. Gradually add the aggregate to the mix.
  4. Mix continuously for at least 2 minutes to achieve a uniform mix. If necessary, add more water up to the maximum amount to achieve the required consistency.
  5. Leave to stand for 2 minutes.
  6. Mix for a further 1 minute.
 

APPLICATION

  1. Saturate the substrate with clean water.
  2. Pour the mixed Product onto the substrate.
  3. Spread the Product evenly using a smooth trowel or "medium or long" nap paint roller.
  4. Immediately apply the SikaShield® W bituminous membrane while the adhesive is still wet. Refer to the current Product Data Sheet for further application advice.

CLEANING OF EQUIPMENT

Clean all tools and application equipment with water immediately after use. Hardened material can only be removed mechanically.
